You know you want a high-definition of your wedding day. Everyone is talking about high-definition. Most wedding videographers are offering it –some for an added price –so it must be worth having. I’m actually going to talk about whether or not you need a high-definition wedding video in a post next week.
For today,I just want to give a brief description in layman’s terms of what high-definition video means. Shooting in high-definition and watching a show or video in high-definition are slightly different, but similar enough that if I explain how watching a TV show in high-definition is different than standard definition you should be able to take away what HD means.
Until a few years ago,all shows were broadcast in what came to be known as Standard Definition (SD) a term that didn’t even exist until the advent of High Definition (HD). Standard definition has 525 lines of resolution meaning each picture that you see consists of 525 lines. Put a bunch of those pictures together and the image appears to be moving. High definition has either 720 or 1080 lines of resolution. More lines in the picture equals better looking picture. There’s much more to it than that, including whether those pictures are progressive or interlaced, but I won’t get into that here.
And don’t think that high-definition is the end of this. Ultra-high definition, with resolutions 3-5 times the resolution of HD are also available for shooting.
