When I got a call four weeks ago from a bride who wanted to know if I could come down to Washington,DC to film her wedding ceremony on July 4th at the Airforce Memorial,I was surprised. Frankly,I’ve never shot a wedding on Independence Day and wasn’t really sure if anyone really got married on the 4th…on a Monday morning at 11am.
I didn’t question much about it however. We came to an accord and I arrived won at the Memorial around 9:45 am. As I started to get my gear out of my car,I noticed the guy in the truck next to me appeared to be from a news station. I wasn’t sure what he was there to cover, but I used to shoot news so he peaked my interest. Then another news videographer showed up,this one with a reporter. I was intrigued. Were they here to cover the marriage I was about to film or was it something else? And if it was something else, would it happen at the same time as the marriage I was recording? Were the bride and groom aware of this other thing?
Then the pastor showed up. He seemed a little frantic, but a friendly guy. The reporter began talking to the pastor and it became obvious that the stations, one Fox,the other NBC were indeed here to cover the marriage I was filming. I asked the reporter about the bride and groom and why the wedding was newsworthy. I had never met them, only communicated via email.
He then explained to me this wonderful story:

I was a little nervous about the news guys getting in my way,but they were very professional and let me handle the shoot. The final wedding video showed two beautiful families coming together in a beautiful setting on a beautiful day.
